Artist Statement

I am 22 years old, entering my senior year of college, and I have had more unique experiences than most people will ever encounter in their entire lives.  Whether these experiences have been undeniably painful or moments of ease and contentment, I feel blessed by them all – they have made me the person I am today and allow me to see the world from a distinct perspective that some may not understand because they have not had these same experiences.

It may sound cliché, but I really believe the smaller things in life make all the difference.  I can be having the worse day and something as simple as a breeze brushing past my skin can make it all okay.  These sighs of relief that I feel in an often chaotic and unpredictable world are represented through my photographs.  The collection of the many years of photographs I have taken remind me, and hopefully other people, that it’s these sighs of relief that make this world a beautiful place, even with all the pain that inevitably will endure.

Studying biology and photography, my work both directly and indirectly relates these two fields – something I do on an everyday basis instinctually, but something that most people see absolutely no connection between.  The smallest discoveries and experiments in both art and science can change the way we see the world from that point on.  Think about it. Even something as insignificant as a dandelion is a miraculous thing; we just have to be aware and willing to accept it as such.
