Artist Statement

I paint the figure as a language that conveys the emotional journey we experience as humans here on the earth, as reflections of the image of Divine beauty. The dramatic lighting, atmospheric settings and use of the figure are echoes of the Romantic era, yet my subject matter is taken from life today. My work particularly focuses on moments of transcendence, revelation and longing. My hope is to reach my viewer in order to evoke a more beautiful way of seeing the world.

My process is created by using multiple layers of oil paint and glazes to create a lush visual landscape that exudes the romantic tradition of emotion and depth. I also incorporate gold and silver leafing into many of my paintings, in order to convey the preciousness of the idea held within the piece by linking it with the concept of a treasured object.
