JOY KREVES grew up in Illinois, the third child of a school teacher and a Unitarian minister. She expressed an interest in being an artist as a young child, an interest which never wavered, although music was also a very strong draw. She completed graduate work in art from Illinois State University, then moved to NYC following graduation. While living in New York she exhibited her art, furthered her studies at The New School, and performed on violin in various performance events around the city. She made stage sculptures for these events. Later she married and moved to New Jersey, where she opened JOY KREVES/TURTLEBABY STUDIOS, a contemporary art gallery, which later became JOY KREVES FINE ART. She closed this gallery in 1990. Kreves' current artwork reflects her continuing interest in exploring ways to express underlying meanings, often emphasizing line, within patterns or alone.

KREVES work has been shown in over 100 exhibitions. It has been selected for juried national exhibitions and has been featured in venues such as The Hunterdon Museum of Art, The Gallery at The College of New Jersey, The Center for Visual Arts at ISU, The Trenton City Museum, The Palmer Museum, and The Queensboro College Museum, and The Gallery at Mercer Community College. Her work has been published in The Paris Review, Vanity Fair magazine, ArtNow Gallery Guide, and numerous newspaper features. Her work was recently shown in solo exhibitions, "Circle Dances: Drawings in Ink and Clay", at The Interchurch Center's, Corridor Gallery in NYC, and in "JOY KREVES: From Mind and Matter", at The Silva Gallery, Pennington, New Jersey. Her mixed media prints were featured in The Second Story Gallery, Chester, NJ.
